Who can use git.mil?

  • Git.mil is available to any Department of Defense (DoD) employee with a current Common Access Card (CAC). Login is federated to the existing DoD Office365 accounts. If you are having trouble authenticating to the application, please try to self enroll in the federation tenant using this link. Accounts should be automatically provisioned but sometimes errors prevent their federation.

What is the approved classification for data storage in git.mil?

  • Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Git.mil is not approved to store HIPAA or PII. So please keep those out.

What are git.mil’s SLAs and who can I contact for support on git.mil?

  • Git.mil is supported on a best effort basis and is therefore recommended for development use cases and products only. We strive to keep the application up to the maximum extent possible, but there is no guarantee of SLA or user support. Isitdown.mil has a service monitor available for the git.mil URLs. For basic questions and troubleshooting, please contact disa.ahi@mail.mil.

What does it cost to use git.mil?

  • The service is currently free to DoD users.

Who can create a project or a group?

  • Project and group creation is open to everyone. We ask that projects and groups are aligned to existing DoD organization structures.

Can i create a project runner?

  • Yes. All of the automation features are available.

Is the container registry available?

  • Yes. However, the container registry in git.mil should only be used for development and automation deployment purposes. Registry.dcm.mil should be used for all production deployments.

is the service desk email feature available?

  • Yes. However, it is in beta stages. We are currently working to make this production. You are welcome to give it a try but no guarantees on full email functionality at this time.

What are the storage limits on git.mil?

  • Storage is not free. Git.mil is currently free. Please be mindful of storage cost and only store data in git.mil that you need to. Excessively large repos may be subject to removal.

What software does git.mil run?

  • Git.mil runs gitlab software. Git.mil is running on kubernetes in a 10k user reference architecture. If you would like access to the specific design, please contact disa.ahi@mail.mil

Where is git.mil accessible from?

  • Git.mil is accessible from the Internet and DoD NIPRNet. The IPs will change based on where you are accessing the application from. In addition, IPs are dynamic and subject to change. Please make sure you whitelist our URLs vs IPs.

Do you need more premium features in git.mil or production support?

  • Git.mil is limited to Gitlab community edition features and is intended for development use only. For production applications or for more advanced features, please see our Vulcan platform. More information is available on our Vulcan product page.
